Meaningful Learning with Technology

I found this chapter to be very insightful for future teachers, such as myself.  I completely agree that technology is such a great tool to help enhance the classroom.  I often times think technology could also hinder the classroom.  I remember many times throughout my high school and college experiences being very apprehensive to use different types of technology.  Rather than stepping outside my comport zone and trying something new; I would just stick to using the same things over and over.  I think that many times these feelings about technology come from my former teachers and their public experiences with technology.  For example, several times teachers will not really know what they are doing with a particularly type of technology and "play around" with it during the class time.  When it does not work out the way they would like they often times give up.  When situations such as these happen in the classroom publicly in front of students, technology has then turned from having a possible positive impact on the classroom to now a negative impact.  Of course there will always be technical difficulties with technology, this is a given; but when teachers have no training or no clue how to use different technologies properly then they are doing nothing but negatively impacting their classroom.  Furthermore, they are also demonstrating to their students the "problems" with technology in turn many times causing them to never want to try.  From reading this chapter, the author explains how we can use technology for meaningful learning.  While I agree that this is such an innovative and great way to learn, teachers need to make sure we are positively portaying this in the classroom.
